Safe Kitchen Scraps/ Pulp?

My husband and I are in the process of planning out a coop, pen, and flock to set up in the next few weeks. I've been making a mental list of the things that I most often toss in the kitchen compost container, and I can't seem to find info on the internet about the safety of some of those items. I make fresh almond milk every other morning, and I know that almonds are safe for hens so I am assuming that the almond "pulp" is as well. Has anyone else tried this and, if so, do then hens like it? The other daily thing that I make daily that creates a good bit of compost "scrap" is fresh juice. Most days we make carrot, beet, apple, celery, ginger juice and it results in lot of pulp. I've read that the apples, carrots, and beets are fine, but is it okay for chickens to eat small amounts of ginger and celery? Will they eat fruit and vegie pulp? These are some of the things that even composting seems like it's kind of a waste as there are still many viable nutrients (and lots of fiber) in the pulp scrap... I'd love to be able to feed it to hens and know that the remaining nutrients are ending up in my egg basket!

Many Thanks,
Rebekah

There is a chicken treats list around here somewhere....[laree digs around BYC]

But in short: the big no-nos are: Avacados, Green potato peels, sugary sweets, excess citrus, and tomato plants.

FOUND IT!

Rebekah!

All those things sound fine to me, they might really go for the pulp. If not, have you considered a worm bin? I will be building one shortly, for all the scraps the chickens can't have/don't like. That way the birds can still eat the worms, and I have worms and castings for the garden.

Thanks for the info...
Laree, the list is exactly what i've been looking for

Now I just need to crack the whip on my husband to build the coop, and find someone who has all the breeds I'm looking for as a picky pullet shopper.

I was just searching this subject to see if dried almond pulp would be ok to give my girls too, since I waste more than I use. I'm drying some on a low temp in the oven right now. Honestly that chart didn't help for this, but appreciate your posting it! :)

I make almond pulp with a little Agave syrup and Vanilla Extract. Is the pulp from this safe for my hens?
