Safe to eat??

I believe she is safe to eat. If there were worms or bugs in there, I wouldn't but she would be good to eat. Poor thing, I have one that is a smaller buff than the others and they took her comb off but we got her out and put her on the outside in our yard and she even comes into the house at times.....in fact ,she decided to set in a little nest we made for her! I am praying I can find an egg about to hatch somewhere and put it under her. She is a lonely, sweet chicken and loves to sit on my husband's lap (he's 82 and loves animals of all kinds). We wash her feet when she comes in and she has actually waited to poop outside and twice went where our dogs go! (we have 5 and they get along with her too!). It was amazing. She is talking like a mother does when they have chicks and is killing herself setting on that nest! They hardly get up at all. She has stayed on those eggs. I don't know if I'm boring you but once one of her eggs feel out of the nest somehow and I saw it and she was trying her hardest to put it back into the nest, so I had to crawl into a tiny hole deep in one of our closets and put it back for her. She is so happy to be left alone and I am so upset that I can not find a egg(even just one) that is close to hatching for her but just maybe someone will help after this next message!

I hope you can at least put your poor chicken on the table. It would be horrible to waste her. Have you tried keeping antibiotic cream on her whole messed up area? Sometimes it works.
Take care now and hope all comes out well for you. I don't know why chickens all love to pick on one if they can get away with it,

BIG MISTAKE! I MEANT NO WORMS OR BUGS! SO SORRY! THIS COMPUTER KEEPS WRITING OVER ITSELF AND I HAVE TO GO BACK AND FIX THINGS . BUT WHAT A DUMB ONE TO HAPPEN TO ME! NO, I WOULD NEVER EAT ONE WITH WORMS OR BUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SORRY

MARGIE

If she's been wounded down to the bone, there is no way that will heal without some serious grafting. chickens have remarkable healing properties, but to heal a wound that exposes the cervical spine? No way. Do the gal a favor, and cull her.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to advise and share your experiences. We have decided to cull her and not to run the risk of eating her. Even if the blue cote doesn't harm, I just can't help but wonder if she might have some other infection entering the wound site. I too have my doubts that she will heal because all of the skin is missing, exposing her skull and neck bones in the back.

Again, I appreciate you all so much!
