Safe treatment in backyard for fleas - any suggestions?

Our chickens free range daily in the yard, my garden grows in the same general area too. Is there any safe way to treat the yard and get rid of the fleas without doing in the chickens?

I've seen Sevin mentioned over the time I've been here. Just not sure how safe it is for the chickens to eat grass/bugs that have been sprayed.

Almost two decades ago when I lived in Massachusetts we had available a kind of beneficial nematode that worked against fleas.

We did the yard several times over two years according to the directions and had very good results.

I don't remember much in the way of details, only that it worked very well.
