Safe Vine?

I want to make a raised garden bed in front of our run and plant a vine to grow up onto the dog fence/run that will provide a natural shade for summer. What plants are safe and would grow fast to do this? I'm in NE Kansas. Thanks in advance!

Grapes. My chickens love their grapevines. They do eat a leaf or two sometimes but they LOVE the grapes!

I'll second ChickensAreSweet's suggestion of grapevines. The vines provide excellent shade and forage for much of the year here. The entertainment value of watching the chickens jump up for the grapes is a bonus.
