Chicken coop
Winter will soon be coming,:yesss: and I need to clean out my chicken coop.:sick Clean out their nest boxes, their water, and give them fresh straw in their nest boxes and on the floor. I've read that some people get diseases after cleaning out their chicken coop. What is the safe way clean out a chicken coop?

My dad and I wear mask and sunglasses or some kind of eye wear to protect us from the dust. I have never gotten sick, but you can get diseases from their poop. I highly doubt you could get anything from cleaning the coop out. Maybe if you were walking barefoot in chicken poop and inhaling it you would.;):p

I think the danger is more from the mouse, rat, and wild bird droppings. Although, breathing in any dust is bad for your health.
I bought a painting overall to wear when I clean out the guinea coops. I put on a dust mask and safety glasses also. My DH says it is overkill, but I know that coop has droppings from rabbits, mice, wild birds (barn swallows nest in there), and assorted other vermin. The door to that coop is seldom closed and everything drops by for a snack.

I had coons steal a 5 gallon bucket that was 1/2 full of feed out of the shed. Gone, completely vanished. They must have dragged it through the field, across the road and into the swamp! Only other guess would be 2-footed vermin, I wouldn't be surprised to see that either.

I plan on wearing a breathing mask, goggles, and changing clothes afterwards. I would have to wear a mask anyway.. the chicken coop really stinks. :sick :p
