Saffy Tiermat, my 18 week old Australorp, laid her first egg yesterday and has just laid her second egg in two days (nesting in the vase on the verandah) - go Saffy!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! Can't believe how excited I was when Saffy laid her first (and second!) egg

I felt like a very proud mother -

Now just have to wait for the other two - Edwina & Patsy to start. Funnily enough Saffy is the smallest of the three - perhaps she's got 'small person syndrome' and just had to show off how clever she is! Is it strange that she's chosen the vase as a nesting box? Would love to hear from others about their chickens' strange nesting habits.
