Saint Patty's Hatch!!!!

I have finally had a hatch that I will deem a success!!! I have not opened the incubator yet to take chicks out, although the little ones that hatched monday are ready to get to exploring the brooder. This morning I still have eggs pipping and zipping so they will need to hold out till this afternoon when I get home to start transferring chicks. I am so happy. I was really discouraged with last months hatch failures. This morning I loaded 13 mallard eggs I purchased at auction over the weekend. I hope I get better results than I had with the goose eggs. Only one is left. None of the others had developed. If I don't get at LEAST 1/4 of the mallards to start developing, I will not buy eggs from them again. They are from the same seller and were labled as hatching eggs like the goose eggs were, so time will tell....

Final count on bator #2 ended up being 14. I am very pleased with that number. It means I am starting to see improvement on whatever I am doing so that I cause for me to celebrate!

I ended up having 12 hatch for the final #, and have sold four of them, then I stole the eggs from my broody who I knew wouldn't be all that dedicated in lockdown, and hatched 3 more d'uccles plus one mixed. I also have 1 egg left in the bator that was laid later than the rest I think while she was out feeding another hen laid a younger egg in the same nest. I can hear it cheeping, so we'll see how it goes being the late loner.

A Tornado went over my house this past weekend, very scary ordeal. We ran and hid in the closet. Our house and chicken houses were spared. We feel very blessed. It will take Months to clear up all the downed trees and mess. What hurts the most is my incubator lost power for almost 24 hours. They are due to hatch tomorrow. Does anyone think they will make it?

Goodness. You were very lucky there was no damage to you home! I would still hold out hope on the hatch. I have heard reports from others that have went through power outages and still had chicks make it. What did the temps get down to?

Wow, glad everyone is ok. Someone is watching out for you

I wouldn't give up on your hatch just yet. It may take a day or two extra to hatch but I think they should be fine as long as it didnt get too cold.

OK, I have 11 little ones. 2 are EE's and the rest are Silkies! At least I got some.

There are still about 15 that did not even pip. I am not giving up yet though, since the power was off, there could be a delay.
