I go to a local health food store that sells organic vegetables - as you all know, organic costs more, so they tend to have left-overs that go past their prime. They sell them to me at 75% off, so I pay three or four dollars a week for a huge bag of whatever. Today I got broccoli, zucchini, carrots, parsley and cabbage. I chopped up a bunch of it and gave it to my poor, snow avoiding chooks - they wouldn't even come out for fresh salad, I had to put it in the coop for them. Spoiled little girls.....

I always look for the bags or boxes of salad at the grocery store that are marked off 50% because of the experation date but are clearly still good. My birds wont step foot in snow either.

We have 6” of snow / ice right now. I was headed back from the green house and tossed about a pound of stuff into the run. They would come out and grab a little bit of stuff and run back inside. They know I will not stop on the way back form the green to deliver there treats. Last time I looked there were still some larger items out there that were not drag able.
