I'm guessing roo. I have 2 pullets about the same age, and even though my 2 look quite different from each other and one is quite dark, there is no black on mine at all. I think the black chest feathers are supposed to be a roo trait.

But I new to this...

We are also outlaws, which is why I am anxiously awaiting the answer; we can't afford to have a roo.

I have also read about the black feathers, but I can't find a pic of a roo at this age, so I wonder about poor breeding---or maybe I am fooling myself

I'd say pullet because even though it has some black feathers on its chest the rest is colored like a pullet and if it was a roo it'd have more black at that age. I have 3 hens and 1 roo, and one of my hens has dark feathers around the underside of it's tail and it's chest. Its feathers are dark gray not black but almost black. I'd say it's just a hatchery quality or poor breeding. Mine came from a hatchery but only one of them had the dark feathers. you'll be able to tell for sure in a few weeks. If it's a roo it's comb will get BIG. good luck! i personally are waiting on some of my other chickens till i know for sure whether they're male or female.

!Shkittles!

Here's some pics i found of my faverolles

roo a day before he'd be 4 wks. old notice how pink and big his comb already is while yours is very small another reason why i say pullet

here's a pic of his feathers notice how he has all black feathers on his wings and on his legs

Here's one of my pullets at the same age (not the one with the dark feathers) notice how she has the same wing colored feathers as yours another reason i say pullet. Also notice how small her comb is it's almost nonexistent.

hope these pics help! All my birds are hatchery quality.

You can have one of my pullets! I didn't mean to get two... It just happened.

For that matter, I didn't MEAN to get 12 chickens in the middle of the city...

I had 4, and one was a roo, so I replaced him and a loud pullet, with ummmm, 10 more.

Good luck.
