Salmon Faverolle chicks -- boys or girls?

I will just say this: When my chicks started to get in what I'm now calling their "Teen Feathers" the coloring was definitely NOT a match to their adult coloring. It was definitely closer then when they were chick-ies! but just remember, "Until it's crowing, their's just no good way of knowing!"

Yep, that's what I was afraid of.  But, I love the Faverolles so I will keep them boys and get me 2 hens.

I would be careful. It's recommended 6 or more hens for each rooster to keep the roosters happy, or the hens will get abused by the roosters. 2 is defiently too little for 2 roosters.

I have two SFs as well. Not sure what gender. Did your pullets feather in faster?

I agree, you seem to have a pretty good understanding between the cockerels and pullets; the last one is really the only one that really shows rooster like features.. Good job and good luck with your flock!!

This is my 4 week old SF. Cutest and loudest out of all my chicks, but feathers are coming in pretty dark. I have also read that most hatchery SF's will be dark even the hens. Not sure yet what this one will be just hoping it's not a roo.

Does anyone have any insight on SF Roo's? Temperments?

That chick is a rooster, unfortunately They aren't mean at all, just shy and calm towards humans.

'cutest and loudest' HA! we got one egg to hatch out of a batch (power outage, moving to my nephews right at the end of incubation so I could babysit, etc)...it is one of the faverolles eggs. I picked up 2 black orp crosses just to keep him company until I have a chance to hatch more (wanting Brahmas & & Favs and some appleyard ducks, for temperament, dual-use, winter-hardiness, and friendliness with people/children reasons). He was an only chick for 2 or 3 days and is DEFINITELY the loudest one. Also the only one who will come looking for a human if he is cold or needs something. will step right up on my hand if I put it in the brooder so he can get an elevator ride to some snuggles... just his Faverolles temperament or the only-chicken syndrome I don't know. He's just 8 days old now, so don't actually know if it's a he or she, but I assume since only one egg hatched it's gonna be a roo. but LOUD, yes. and much more tuned in to what's going on outside the crate than the other two. Thanks for all the SF chick pictures, everyone! I'm going to watch the feathers come in and see what we get.

I say pullet.I see brown feathering on the back of the neck and head. A cockerel would have straw. Cockerels also tend to be more mottled as youngsters, and would likely have some pink in the comb by now.

She will probably wind up looking something like this. These are examples of hatchery pullets people have posted here thinking the were cockerels.

Wooh thanks that helped me. I had one that I was pretty sure was a pullet have blackish breast feathers at about 6 weeks old, so I was pretty confused. Her comb is still rather small and pale so I'm hoping it's just like this one.
