Salmon Faverolle--pullet or cockerel?

Hatchery pullet.

As for your blue polish, when you order blues you will get blue, black or splash. Just the way the gene works.

NovaAman, I am leaning more toward pullet as well, but just had a few minor doubts.

Thanks for your help everyone! For now I won't change her name and just keep assuming she is a girl unless she without a doubt proves otherwise.

keesmom, I didn't know that about the blue Polish. Thank you! I don't mind that he looks like he's probably splash coloring. I just wanted a Polish chicken and that is what the store had. I'm actually happy he turned out that way. I adore him! :)

I got a VERY dark favorelle pullet from McMurray a year or two ago. Was almost black, everyone here said roo, so I rehomed 'him'. Turned out to be a girl. So hatcheries can get some weird colors it seems.

The Faverolles is a pullet. The noises she is making is probably "singing". Some hens like to sing really loud. It could be confused with crowing if you've never heard it before.

I have several Salmon Faverolles, although they are not quite as old as yours yet. At this point, I can't see much of a tail at all.. type..not near like my other chicks. Yours makes me wonder, too but could be just the hatchery type I guess.

With that black coming on on the breast and that Rooster-crowing stance in the second to the last photo I would have my doubts too! For 11 weeks the comb is still really small and non-red so I like your strategy of keeping her girl name for now, but be prepared for a back-up boy anme

Do keep us poted as 'she' matures so we know what happens!

So her backside is pretty bald due to an Easter Egger cockerel we have (he's so terrible about that!). Is that proof Cora is in fact a hatchery quality pullet or will roosters sometimes "mate" other roosters?

A beautiful pullet! I think your cockerel knows

as for cockerels mating other cockerels I've never seen it, mine always fight instead but there are always hens present if they were kept by themselves then they may!
