Salmon Faverolles

I don't think I have showed many people the pictures of my first Faverolles and one of my first chickens. I had a mixed flock of birds from Meyer hatchery and some culls like Maran's and Ameraucana that I would sell colorful eggs from. Thats why my Mom is so used to having lots of eating eggs. We also used to have 25 hens so maybe thats why she is used to it

10 bantams are much easier for my parents to take care of.

Well here is the bird that got me into having Faverolles in the first place she was beautiful and I got very lucky with a faverolles from a hatchery. I feel she is the best Faverolles hen I have ever seen come from a hatchery at least color wise.

For about 35 years Buff Orpingtons have been my favorite breed and I have had as many as 60 hens at one time. I have recently read how wonderful are the Salmon Faverolles. So now I have a dozen Favrolles chicks ordered from Cackle Nursery along with another dozen Buffs.
And I am wondering how the two breeds will get along together. I have always found the Buff O's to be quite docile and friendly but read that Faverolles are even more docile and even near the bottom of the pecking range. I would love some comments on how others have experienced this mixture of breeds. I would rather not have to build another chicken house.

I have 5 Salmon Faverolles and should start laying eggs this October. They have been a lot of fun to watch in the brooder and cant wait for them to grow up

SO cute!! I just got 3 Bantam Faverolles about a month ago. I named them Phoebe, Popcorn and Samantha. They are my first chickens and I absolutely love them. I've also heard that they can be bullied by other members of the flock because they are so gentle, but since I don't have any chickens of other breeds, I haven't experienced that myself. They do seem really gentle, and son't mind being picked up. They even put up with my 10 year old brother and all of his friends. They laid 3 eggs all in the week after we got them, and haven't laid since. Not sure why they aren't laying, I think they might be molting though. I love this breed, they are so funny-looking, but in a really cute way. I think they make great first chickens.

Hello, I know this last post is a year old, but...I was wondering now how everyone is doing with mixing these birds with their flock? I have a mixed flock of pullets and layers (pullets are about 4 months old now) of NH Reds, Red Sex Link, Austrolorp, Barred Rock, Americauna, Brabanter, and Deleware. Found that 3 of the pullets were actually cockerals so the hatchery very kindly switched them out for pullets and I received another Americauna and 2 Salmon Faverolles. These 2 little Faverolles are the sweetest of all the chicks I've ever raised so far. Unfortunately, they are only about 2 months, so I placed them in with the big girls in a separate cage for a few days so they could all get used to each other. Today I let them out and all the hens and pullets just pounced on them! I figured since they're younger I'll just put them in my brooder box until they're the same size. But now reading this thread has me concerned if they will ever be able to mix with the hens. When I placed the pullets in with the hens, there was a day or two of adjusting and establishing pecking order, but they all seem to get along well with no bickering. Any thoughts if this will happen with these little guys?

Hi there :)

I'm currently introducing 3 Favs to my flock. Reading about how much they can be bullied I've decided to go for a very slow introduction. The chickens run splits in half so I have the Favs on one side and the older chickens on the other. I started with the Favs on "their" side with their own coop since they were around 16 weeks. I didn't bother with trying to introduce them for another month after that, just let them get settled. So after 4 weeks I started letting the older girls mingle with them for 15 mins before bed, then half an hour etc etc. It's been 8 weeks now and they're still not fully integrated, I would rather take it slow and avoid any injuries than rushing it

(probably would of been integrated by now but I had a set back when one of my girls got sick). Things are going well and I think very soon they will happily be part of the flock. If done right I don't think having them in a mixed flock is a problem, they're just so docile you've got to make sure they don't get bullied :) x
