From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows...I had just returned a recovered hen (prolapse) to the flock then I noticed this girl slowing down and looking ill...she is a 3 y.o. Amberlink who hasn't laid since December. In the last 1-2 weeks she has become sluggish, slightly penguin-stanced, puffy, and going to "bed" earlier than the others, but still eating, drinking and looking for treats. I was about to search for a local vet to do a fecal float test on her but then I found a grape-sized lash egg in a nest box today...so I think I have my diagnosis.
I know she's about at the end of her lifespan for an Amberlink; but are there any comfort measures I can take for her? In the absence of a local avian vet, are there antibiotics I can try (I'm assuming this is bacterial)? I don't want to stress her more my removing her from the flock if I don't have to; she's at the bottom of the pecking order but the other hens have left her alone.
