Hello all, I was introduced to this site by a friend who has fallen in love with harvesting eggs from a home grown flock. Indeed, both him and my second job at an organic farmer's market, have inspired me to start raising various meat birds. Nothing of what I have tasted, commercially, compares to what those who truly care raise. I have started with a duck, hoping to get help and get much needed advice with this new experience.

I own three ducks, and important things to know about them are:
  • Sometimes the male ducks will try to mate with female chickens, which is fatal
  • Ducks love to eat insulation, so cover it up well
  • Ducks lay on the ground, so be careful not to step on the eggs
  • Cover the top of the coop to ensure that the ducks won't fly out
Have fun on BYC and raising your birds!
