Same ole' Same ole' I have a fox problem

I have been trying a boxtrap for the last month or so. No luck at all with it. I'm using sardines as bait, I hear foxes like that. I bought a scent killing product to kill any human scent on the trap. No luck, I see him every now and then, but usually when I don't have a gun on me. But then I missed him the other morning when i had a chance. They are frustrating.

for foxes, live bait works really well, around here foxes RARELY go into baited traps, we had to trap on on my dads friends property that was killing his bobwhites, they set up a trap with a culled quail in the back, the fox simply found a way to roll the trap until the door shut and pulled the quail through the flap in the top.


tried that three times, each time the fox would trip the trap and pull the quail through the bait slot (the reason we know it WAS the fox is because my dads friend is a big time hunter and has wild-life cams set up around his quail pens.


so what he did was took some bob-white chicks and put them in a VERY secure metal cage and quadruple zip-tied the door so the fox couldn't work the door open and se the cage with the quail at the back of the live trap and put a backet over the whole thing except the entrance, and that same night, one trapped fox and 4 still safe if not terrified bob white chicks. what they did with the fox afterwards I don't know, i don't want to think about it, bt he did invite us over for dinner the next day...i didn't go LMAO

If leg traps are an option (you can pad them to avoid serious injury) set a few around a chicken in a cage as the fox will circle the cage.

You can buy them cheap online at any trappers supply. Setting them is an art.

live bait may not be legal for FUR trapping, however, the rules are usually a lot looser when it comes to protecting your livestock. Heck, sometimes I consider the whole coop/run itself to be the "bait"

and yes I prefer to keep my chickens very much alive. If the game warden wants to call that using live bait, tell 'em to come get me.
If you were trapping to sell fur trade, then yes follow the law to the letter, but last time I checked there wasn't a bag limit on livestock killers.

Fix the fence by raising up a few inches off the ground and adding posts as needed to hold it properly then watch the fireworks. It's like any tool, if you use it wrong, it ain't gonna work right
