My grand daughter has a Maltese pup
that thinks it is a game to tease the chickens. Whenever she comes over with him, he rushes the fence. This causes the chickens to flee. No matter where the go. he is after them. Today two hens and a roo got over the fence and the wive was feeding them the salad trimings. The dog saw this and went after them, only this time the roo fought back. It was the funniest thing I have seen in many days. The pup turned tail and ran with Sam right on him, just beating him with his wings and pecking him. The pup even tried hiding under my truck which didn't work. Finally, my daughter was able to get the pup and take it back to the house. Every time a roo crowed after that the pup ran behind the couch. We will see what happens the next time he is here. Everyone that saw it just wished they had a camera. We all said it would make Americas Funniest Videos. The pup weighs all of three pounds and Sam weighs in at a little over eight pounds, so you know who will win every time.

good one

That would be very funny to see. We have a weimaraner who learned very quickely to stay away from the rooster and she is a lot bigger than the rooster.

My dogs do the same thing with the hens. They'll run the fence and bark, etc like they are going to kill them.

Open the gate and let the dogs IN with the chickens, and they won't get anywhere near them.

I have 2 gold campines and they are the smallest of my girls, but they will go after the dogs every time - it is too funny to watch!

I still don't trust them 100% though to leave the gate open all the time. PLUS I think my neighbors would prefer my chickens stay in their yard, and they could fly over the fence in the other part of the yard since it is not covered.

We had a friend who took her weener dog in the back to see the ducks and geese despite my warnings.
The dog was caught by my muscovy drake and mated him rudely as only muscovies can do. Then my gander got hold of him and wing beat him and pinched the you know what out of him. After I was able to stop laughing long enough to pick myself off the ground, I grabbed up the dog and handed it to my friend.
You know, it's funny, when they visit now, the dog goes to the FRONT door when he wants out to do his bizness.

I have 2 maltese and my smallest one wants so bad to play with the chickens. Every time they chase her, she thinks its the start of a game only to be disappointed when they go back to pecking at the ground

I think your maltese will gear up and try again soon
