Sand Bath?

What do you do in the winter when the ground is frozen? I've been wondering...

There is one 4x8' sheltered space in the run,
it's under the coop and I put up a wind block on the north side in winter,
that stays dry (and thus unfrozen) all year around.

So far I used peat moss I liked that idea
