Sand between their toes?

Putting sand down in our run... What kind of sand? Kids play sand? All purpose from lowes? We have a small run (only 3 girlfriends) so we are not wanting to go to the local rock shop for a whole scoop load... Just bag sized amounts . Thanks for your thoughts!!

Children's play sand is 'clean' to start with, but that doesn't matter when you have chickens running around in it. You don't want the grain size to be too fine, because creating excessive amounts of fine dust over long periods might impact their respiratory system. So, regular building sand would seem fine to me.

I know several members on here get their sand from Lowes.

I've used/use both play sand (which is currently in my coop) and paving sand (construction sand) which is more coarse, with small, grit like pebbles in it. The construction sand is in my uncovered run. At one time, I had play sand in my run, I think the coarser sand drains better and I'm really happy with it there. I still have the play sand in my coop. We just bought bags at Lowe's. Delivery would have been a bit cheaper, but getting it by the bag was easier...
