Sand box

Hi, I have a question in regards to my babies. I have 5 golden sex links and 2 RI reds, I want to put down in the brooder a small sand box for them to scratch ... Is this a good or bad idea in terms of harming my birds?

Yes its all right. I will often put a pan of just plain dry dirt in the brooder. That allows them to take dirt baths as well as exposing them to the local bacterium to help build their immunity. Some make a mixture of peat moss and sand for the chicks. Some will just use sand.
