Sand floor for babies?

At what age can I use sand to line the brooder? I'd like to have sand in the coop & run outside but can I use it in the brooder inside too? Will the chicks not need grit if they're on top of sand? Thanks!

Sand will be fine. They won't need grit anyway unless they eat something besides their feed, and if they do, the sand will probably serve the purpose while they're young.

I used sand from the first day from the hatchery and it has been wonderfull! Not one leg problem and they love to scratch and dirt/sand bathe.

Just plain river sand. We have free access to all we can dig just a few miles from the house.

I like to use sand too. It makes clean up easy when you use a kitty litter scoop.
