I have a relatively large log building which will be used for the coop for my new flock. It has a sand floor. To create a brooder all I will have to do is section off one corner of the inside of the building with some 18" high boards, and install heat lamp/waterer/ feeder etc. The floor is sandy. Do I need to add wood shavings litter for my chicks in the brooder or will the sand floor serve as adequate litter?

Thanks.

I would add newspaper then wood shavings .. I would be afriad they would see it as food and possibly get impacted... Atleast for the first week or soo ..
