I have read so much on sand in the coop. I'm looking at buying Fill sand! It's gray with shell, maybe some rock..
I'm needing to make sure I'm getting the right one..
Is there a wrong sand ?

I'm wanting to order it today and have it delivered on Friday...

Thanks

Alice

I wasn't sure what kind of sand to get either and I think sand varies quite a bit depending on where you live. I ended up getting leveling sand, like what you would use when setting pavers. It's wasn't as sharp as builders sand or fill sand but not as light as play sand so it doesn't blow around. It's worked great. It's made a solid floor that drains well and is easy to rake clean. Yet the chickens can still scratch around in it. Just my two cents. I don't think there is a "wrong" sand to go with

Nah, all the sand is pretty good. I like all purpose sand or fill sand. The chickens dust in it and eat it. Shell? Thats really good, free calcium.

Thank you ....

I decided to go with fill sand... I'm looking forward to getting it done.. Our coop floor is caving in, and it's that time of year were I power wash the inside. So we decided to go with the sand .. I'm not looking forward to all the work.. But the results... Plus we are getting some new babies this weekend and I would love to have it all done before.. Just another project in our house.. lol

I put sand in mine and so far so good. pretty easy to clean up about every other day. the poop dries quickly in it.
