Sand for my muddy run

You want to use Washed Construction Sand, wet conditions are a breeding ground for coccidiosis. Sand will keep odors down and flies to a minimum and will drain well to help keep soil dry.

Make sure you clean the sand though. When the hens poop in the sand it will get coated with sand and sometimes hens will assume the sand covered droppings are food and eat them. As long as you do a weekly cleaning of your coop it should not cause any problems.

As I am in there daily, I will take you advise to heart and rake / scoop it out daily, I am yet trying to figure how much sand to buy for the run. Thanks for the advise.

I used 150 pounds of sand for the floor of my coop - 36 square feet. That's about 4 pounds a square foot. You have 120 square feet so 480 pounds?
