Sand Hill Preservation Questions...

Has any one ordered the "Mystery Assortment(extras from genetic crossing experiments) ", the "Super Assortment"
or the "Farmyard Assortment"

Was it a good assortment?
How is the quality of their chicks?

I did not order any of the assortments so can't answer that question. Of the breeds I ordered ,the health is fine. My understanding from people who know them is that it is a family endeavor. Not a mega operation and as such they can be back ordered on some of the more sought after breeds. They are in my experience Honest hard working people who try hard to accomodate their customers. If you want Show chickens go to a show breeder. As mr Drowns clearly states in the catalog , they are not selling show birds.One of the things I liked about them is that they do NOT sell sexed chicks so they don't have to overbreed and KILL extra day old males . I eat chicken but the thought of mass slaughtering Babies is too much.

Im not worried about getting show stock,etc like that.
I like them becouse they are a family run center.

I've never ordered any assortments from Sandhill except their heavy chickens assortment. I've been very pleased with that and my experiences with them though. They've honored my requests to not include certain breeds every time I've ordered from them also.

Last year i got their
Assorted Chickens: This assortment may be made up from any of the breeds of large fowl chicks listed in our catalog. You may receive anything from the most common to the rarest, depending upon what is left after specific breed orders have been filled. An order for 25 chicks will usually include 4 or 5 different breeds. Chicks $1.10 each. (100 per hatch)

I did it since I only wanted 5 of one breed and did the assortment to fill the order.I got some black leghorns and bbr cubalayas.I have done the same thing this year and they should ship today,I can let you know what I get this time.

They called last night,on top of my one breed pick i got Spangled Russian Orloff,Sicilian Buttercup and sumatras.there is one more breed I just can't for the life of me remeber what she said.I will let you know and take pics,my main post office has not called yet to pic up....

I got 6 black Orpington ordered 5...... got 4 Blue Andalusian,6 black Sumatra,6 Buttercup and 6 Spangled Russian Orloff.2 of the Orloffs are weak but all others bouncing all over the place.I gotta charge batteriesthen ill post pics.

Lost 1 Orloff and Im not sure if other one will make it....
