sand in chicken run?

Hi, i am a new time chicken owner.

I have 6 chickens and a run that is now on a patio (bricks)
I put sand down recently in the [uncovered] run so they aren't just on bricks. It has not rained since. I am wondering if this was a bad idea and if the chickens/run will be affected by the sand.

also, what are some positives and negatives of sand in an uncovered run??
p.s. the type of sand is all purpose sand as it says in the bag (looks like beach sand)

We had sand in part of our old run and it was fine as long as it was dry.

Wet sand is going to get very smelly when they spend some time on it.

If at all possible I'd recommend covering it - nothing worse than a cecal poop on wet sand
