Sand in the coop?

We are about to finish our run today...will be used as a Summer Coop since we are in a hot climate. Just finished the roosts before lunch and about to add the poop boards under them.

When we get the Winter Coop done, both the Run and Coop will have sand. I have been using in the tray under the Chick-n-Hutches and it worked great drying the poo; I just sift the sand with a screened litter scoop.

Come join the party tonight...DH just has to build the door then the girls can go in the run! Bring on the moving vans!

I'm using sand in my coop, and it is really easy to maintain and keep clean. Most of the poop falls on the poop boards, and the strays just get scooped up with a kitty litter scooper. I sprinkle DE on top of the sand every so often. I chose sand initially because I didn't like the idea of the poop staying in the coop for months on end, as with the deep litter method. I wanted to be able to clean it out easily whenever I wanted. So far, I'm really happy with it.
