Sand in the coop????

I've tried this before. It's not a good idea if your coop is a little airy, which mine is, since the rain sometimes gets in and it makes a mess. I think you should stick with shavings.

I use sand in my coop and love it. So do my girls. I use it all spring., summer and fall mixed with DE and sweet PDZ. It's great. Easy to clean and never smells. In the winter I clean it all out and use the clean sand mix and wood shavings and straw over it for warmth.

Sweet PDZ?
It's the mineral zeolite, it neutralizes ammonia. I use it with sand on my roost boards, it's great stuff.

You can get it at Tractor Supply, marketed as a horse stall freshener.

Tho I saw a small jar of it, under another name, in the chicken aisle at a ridiculous price.
