Sand or deep bedding.

Fixing up the coop have about 19 baby chicks and 6 ducks going into it in a couple of weeks. I had orginally planned to just do deep litter. After browsing on here I like the idea of sand. I was thinking about putting a board (2×4?) On the side of the coop with the roost for sand and do bedding on the other side. Any thoughts or input is appreciated. It's a 12x10 shed with a concrete floor.

Are you planning on comporting? I deep litter for compost for my vegetable garden.

I wouldn’t do deep litter with ducks because it will get too poopy and wet way to fast. And if you did half and half you would not need a 4 inch divider you would need a 2 foot devicer to insure no bedding is kicked into the sand

I would not do either.

I detested sand, and with wet duck poop it's gonna get gross super fast.

I'm not a big believer in deep litter either.

With the ducks in the mix, I'd use pine pellets for bedding, they're typically marketed for horse stalls. They absorb a lot of water.
