Sand or Pine shavings??

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Sand is great for the coop/run floor and ground but you need to make sure that it is a very course sand (not fine like beach sand) and that it has been washed so that it is not dusty. Fine pea gravel (washed) will also work very well and there's no danger of dust with it. I really don't think I will be using sand inside my coop?? Jury is still out though!!
I will definitely buy the better sand for my run!
Alberta was in a drought this summer so I had no idea what condition my run would be in after rain. We have gotten lots of rain the last few days and my run is a mud hole! The girls needed rubber boots as did Ron my rooster!
I will continue trying new things till it works for my hens.
