Sand under Roosts, keeping them out?

How do you guys do it that has sand for catching the poo under the roosts? DO you have to have chicken wire between the boards so they cant get into it?

I don't, and I don't think it would be necessary in my case, since the area is fairly small, but others may feel differently.

Too bad mine don't use their roost though. They just kick the pine shavings into the sand pit, then move on.

Mine don't go in the sand and I clean under the roosts daily. I have it set up to clean like a kitty litter box.
