I have clumping kitty litter with the following ingredients

Sodium Bentonite
Calcium Carbonnate
Fragrance

Can I use this as a medium for my chickens to bathe in?
Will they eat it and if they do, will it hurt them?

Advice much appreciated.

I would use sand or wood ash. Just my opinion. It is possible they will eat it, but I don't know if it will hurt them. I'd just stick to sand.

NO! PLEASE DON'T USE CLUMPING KITTY LITTER ANY WHERE AROUND CHICKENS. They are as apt to eat it as they are to dust bathe in it. When it gets moist, it will turn to cement. It would kill an animal that was unfortunate enough to ingest it.

Another thing to consider - kitty litter is dusty. When you pour it, there is a very fine dust that comes up. If your chickens are dust bathing in it, and kicking up that fine dust with the fragrance in it... I don't know if it would hurt them to breathe it in or not.

Hubby says there is lots of wood ash from the wood burner in the shed, is it safe to use that?
