sand????

ok so my chicks are 6 weeks and they have chick feed scatch and grit... now my grandma has a family freind that says they need sand for them to be able to digest their food.... is this true because i dont think they need it if the have grit witch is mixed in with there feed and on the ground of their run... do they need it?

Thats what the grit is for if you have grit you don't need sand
