Sandhill Preservation

I hatched out 5 Favs last spring. Very friendly, the Salmon Blue boy was gorgeous, but yes, they were picked on by every other breed I had out here. The Salmon cockerel was so timid that he was getting beat up on a daily basis and I had to separate him out for a while and then got rid of all of them. They are very pretty to some, ugly to others, depends on your taste in features, but all were very docile and I love that.

I have heard that you should pass on the Orloffs at Sand Hill too. I think what they are attempting is a good thing, however, when you deal in rare breeds you are always going to run into in-breeding issues if you can't get your hands on new blood. Perhaps that is part of the problem there. But some of their breeds are very good. Yes, I think their prices are high for the quality they are putting out.

You can keep researching which breeds to look at from them though, it might pay off.

Good luck.

I'll check out the thread. Its really too bad about the faverolles.

I will get a picture of my black orpingtons up tomorrow. I have 5 hens and I am very happy with 2 of them. Big, beautiful girls at 4 months old. The others may fill out and look just as good. I had 2 big roosters from them too, but I recently sold them. They have friendly personalities, and they did not get handled as chicks.

Here's a picture of a bunch of them. The one in the very back isn't an orpington. Unfortunately, I couldn't get too close because my lavender rooster doesn't like the camera and was trying to attack me. They are a little over 4 months old.
