Yesterday morning I was awakened to a freak out in the coop. with visions of predators dancing in my head, I tore out there with my nightgown and holding an old boot as my weapon... the girls were all freaked out. the roost was down in the bedding, the nest box totally out of place and the doors wide open. A cat was jumping out of my yard ASAP. My hens were ok as far as I could tell. just scared I guess... I don't think the cat ever got in the run. (I blame my kid for leaving the coop doors open, I guess the cat then had a great view and ability to scare the hens...

Today I got two bumpy sandpapery eggs. one of which was WAY lighter than it's usual color. Iv'e never gotten them before. Could it be because of the scare they got yesterday? Yesterdays eggs were normal....

it looks like one of them pecked at the other two eggs. on e was cracked all over, must have been leaking some,,, since it had 4 feathers stuck to it. The other had a peck cracky spot. but the membrane wasnt' torn...

the two might might be unrelated but I wondered... I 'm glad I'm home to check for eggs more often this weekend

I get these every once in awhile also . There are a few reasons why it happens . #1 your hen is not getting the right nutrients ( ie...oyster shell ) in her body . #2 she might not be processing the nutrients like she should . #3 she might be getting up in age . Their bodys are just like ours.....sometimes we don't have things come out like normal . I wouldn't wotty about it unless it continues to happen .
