About six weeks ago I noticed one of my 1 year old RIRs was in the coop a long time. I went to check on her and when she left the roosting box there was a tiny lash egg. I panicked and started calling vets and farm stores and the consensus was to wait to see if it happened again before bringing her into the vet or trying antibiotics. It didn't happen again.

As a precaution I gave her ACV in her water and pedialyte for a week. She didn't lay for about four days and then she resumed laying daily. I check her eyes and vent for signs of dehydration or infection and she seems totally normal.

I live in Las Vegas so I should mention that it has been about 105 for the past few weeks and went up to 117 twice. They have a misting hose and I do all the things suggested for extreme heat.

My issue is that her eggs are now shaped differently, a little oblong and always have a rough patch on the smallest side of the egg. Her diet hasn't changed and there are no new stressors in her life. The eggs are normal inside the shell.

If must be related to the salpingitis, right? Should I be worried? Any ideas what is going on with this little lady?

Lash eggs are caused because some of the lining from the reproductive tract sheds. Sometimes it is bad enough that the hen dies or stops laying eggs altogether. Your hen seems to have made it through the process but has had a change in the shell gland. It might get better but she will likely always lay eggs that are not perfect.

I would give the hens vitamins weekly for two days in their water during the hot weather. Make sure there are electrolytes in the vitamin too.

But she's not in any danger? I don't mind oddly shaped eggs as long as she's okay.

With Hens, laying eggs goes along with health. She should be fine for now but may have more problems at the end of this laying cycle. It is common to have egg laying issues with hybrids like the hens they sell as Rhode Island Reds from feed stores. Red stars and golden comets can have more problems too.

No, not true.
'Lash eggs' are hardened pus from an internal infection.

The funky eggs could be from the reproductive system being damaged from said infection and/or the extreme heat.
