Hello out there - I'm having a difficult time finding a website that would tell me the chicken law of the land in little Santa Cruz, CA...a little help?

I found this on the Santa Cruz Municipal Code website. It seems pretty cut and dry to me.

24.22.050 ANIMAL, DOMESTIC.

Small animals of the type generally accepted as pets, including dogs, cats, rabbits, pigeons, hens, and the like; but not including roosters, quacking ducks, geese, pea fowl, goats, sheep, hogs, or the like.

Here in Santa Cruz it is important to know whether you are within the city limits of one of the towns which make up our beautiful area, OR if you are in an UNINCORPORATED area (there are many). The regulation in the above reply apply to Santa Cruz Municipal codes. These apply if you live within the Santa Cruz city limits.

For those of us that are in the unincorporated areas (Live Oak, SLV, Soquel, etc, etc) here is what I've found so far:

http://www.scanimalshelter.org/pet_limits

"Small animals (fowl, rabbits, rodents etc) permitted on lots of 6,000 to 15,000 square feet: 1 per 1,000 square foot (or on lots larger than 1/3 acre)."

"Family Animals"; Small Animals
such as poultry, rabbits and
chinchillas (no roosters,
peacocks, turkey gobblers or
guinea fowl).
P P P
(On lots of 6000 to
15,000 sq. ft.: one
per 1000 sq. ft.) or
(On lots larger than
1/3 acre)
N

The "P"s mean that they are 'Permitted' for residents living in 'single family dwellings'.

Hope this helped!

I live in Soquel, my lot is zoned RA, residential agriculture.

Our zoning allows:

On a parcel containing 1/2 acre or more, 4 sheep or goats, or 100 poultry, rabbits, or other small animals are allowed per acre.

Have fun.
