Sapphire gem? Hen or roo?

Here's an update a week later, almost 4 weeks old. I will send occasional updates in case anyone later is prowling these threads looking for sapphire gems like I was and I'll remember to come back and post once they either lay an egg or fail to!

I do! A couple of these are from a little over a week ago, a couple are last night.. He is on the right in the pics with more than one chicken. I have 4 sapphire gems and the other three seem like definite pullets. This one looked different from the start. Shorter wing feathers, lack of tail feathers (he only just got a few in!) He has a more upright stance and legs/feet seem bigger. I got them at just days old and none had white spots on their heads. Can't tell of there's barring or not!

Aww so pretty!! I'm glad you found my thread I've been searching gem threads too I'm hoping there's variability since they're hybrids but the experts here are probably right about mine sadly! I didn't think they had white spots either but who knows if what I thought was grey was supposed to count as white. ?? Your feathers look like pullets to me but I'm no expert lol!

Also all 3 of mine have pathetic tail feathers compared to my cinnamon Queens! Including Jasmine who ppl think is a pullet. So I'm holding out hope for you.

Definitely keep your thread posted because I'm so curious what the end result is!! I've thought about that too with the hybrids and even considered maybe this one isn't a SG, but who knows! Hopefully the only roo for us if he is one. I've got a home lined up if we can't keep him. We're outside city limits, but in a neighborhood that has some covenants in place (that most people seem to ignore.) We'll have to see how this goes lol

I do think "he" is rather pretty and he's actually more chill than the other three SG's! I'm sure that could change with hormones eventually. Crossing fingers for you too over there! So hard watching them grow just to re-home

You think so? I'm fine either way but definitely curious to see in some weeks! Maybe just the oddball who developed slower?
