I might have a soft spot for orpingtons, I'm finding
But I like all my birds
I think it's when I notice a funny little quirk they do that they start looking cute
Before I had my own chickens, I didn't realize how unique they all could be. From breed, to the individual bird - they all have their own personality! It's so cool to watch. The orpingtons are quickly becoming my favorite! They are gentle, poofy, and a little aloof. I think I will always want them in the future. My second favorite is a crested cream legbar that always runs up to me, likes to be held, and follows me to the gate when I leave. I don't know if that's a common breed trait but she is awesome. They can certainly have personality. Sometimes don't know where it comes from.

I'd like to add more orps, but after losing my lav, I'm not sure I can handle another lavender orpington pullet/hen for a while.
She did leave behind one daughter (ameraucana x orpington) so I'm glad she's around.
Friendly? No... she'll scream if you try to hold her... as will her half siblings.

Is that because you liked her so much that you need time before getting more? I have 4 lavs that I picked up from TSC this summer and 2 of them let me hold them but the other don't like it all. They are beautiful but all of them have the shredder gene. That's the part that annoys me a little. Maybe I can take on a breeding project if I can find a black orpington but I don't know if I have the time and energy for it.

Yeah. It was a shock.
If I'd gotten multiples, it wouldn't have hit as hard maybe? But most of my flock is only 1 of every breed (or color/pattern)
Just not ready for a pullet/hen that looks exactly like her.

She didn't have really bad feathers, but many of the sellers show birds of horrible shredded feathers.
I'd like to do lav split x lav. I'd just need a lav rooster, but not sure what to go with. I've considered porcelain d'uccles. But there's a significant size difference
