Sapphire Splash layed this ostrich egg today!?

I just pulled this monster out of the nesting box. This is so much bigger than the one Georgia ( Sapphire Splash hen) has been laying. To give reference, I placed the X-Large size egg size she usually lays next to it in the picture. What causes this and should I be worried. Thank you

Poor girl! Ouch! It's hard to say what causes glitches like this. I'd almost bet this is an egg inside an egg. Sometimes an egg gets pushed back up the oviduct and another membrane with albumin will form around it, then when it passes back through the shell gland you get a second shell over the first egg.

Wow thats big! If it only occurs once, i wouldn't be too worried, occasionally theres just 'glitches'. Im curious as to what it looks like on the inside?
