She is a week old now. Actually 10 days old. After a rough start she is eating and drinking like a champ. She is chipper and alert and she can actually out eat her bff Chuck who is slightly smaller than she is. :p However- despite constant supply of fresh water, lost of organics greens daily (dandelion, kale, green lettuces, basil bits etc) and time outdoor grazing (weather permitting)- her eyes are STILL watering. I medicate their drinking water once a day with antibiotics plus a warm bath nightly (very shallow water just hits their bum) that is also medicated and she really cleans her nares out and preens her face really well and drinks and swims while being "medicated". I also add some probiotics to their water too. She is not congested or breathing funny. Her nares are clear as a whistle.

This has been issue since the moment I opened the box when she arrived. Metzer basically said it's my problem and it's not their fault. She's not dead so I have no recourse but to try to get this to go away.

I have some medicated eye drops that I use on my cats after they have foxtails removed their eyes. Their eyes are better fast but I am hesitant to use them on my goslings.

Anyone have any suggestions in addition to what I am doing or perhaps I am doing something wrong? She is TONS better than the day I got her. All seems normal except for those pesky watery eyes. It has to be bacterial because Chuck has NO eye issues right now.

Thanks in advance!

I know you have already spent big bucks but Vetericyn spray is awesome for water fowl, you can get it for eyes too. safe to use on and in the eyes and for other types of wounds and infections, I buy it at TSC. I would be cautious in continuing antibiotics for so long, you don't want them to build up and immunity to them. JM2cents. I don't even buy the one for eyes i just use the regular Veterycin

(i just took this)
This I have been using from day 1 when I got Sarah. I got it for my ducks originally. It's not seemed to do anything honestly and I have been using it since june19. :/

If it doesn't make sense - I blame autocorrect. Sent from my sweet iPhone 4s.

Is it ok to let the eye watering go on for a long period of time? Am I too impatient? Today is the last day of antibiotics. I was told 7-10 days. So we are done with the medicated water. That is what got her eyes to stop gooing and she has been congested the first couple days I had her. I thought she was going to die. Chuck started flinging snot and nose goo at that point too. They aren't doing that anymore- just Sarah and her watery eyes. You can see that around her eyes it's sorta dry and then wateryness sits on top and it's lightly matted the fuzz around her eyes. It's not slimy and gooey like it had been last week though.

I've been looking for answers too. Not much information out there. You have so many animals, I bet you have a good relationship with your vet. It can't hurt to call and ask. You might want to try saline drops just to keep her eyes rinsed out if you want to get her off antibiotics. My mother was on the same medication because she got infections from dry eye syndrome. There may be an underlying cause of the eye infection that you aren't aware of yet.

Thanks for trying. That was so kind of you! I called my vet office and said they would see my chickens/geese/ducks but they don't see them very often so they made it sound like they aren't overly skilled in this area. The office visit alone is $60ish. :| They won't talk me about treatment or diagnosis over the phone (I understand why). I'd have to take both goslings (Sarah would flip out without chuck and chuck would flip out without sarah for 2 hours) and I think that would be really traumatic- maybe I should keep up with the drops (the non medicate vetericyn ones) and fresh water for a few days and see if she will improve. Saturday early mornings they often let me bring my animals in last minute. So I can do that. It's frustrating because it's not better or worse the past few days. Just holding. I'll also keep up with the probiotics.
