On occasion I give my 10 leghorns a treat of sardines. They go absolutely bonkers when I serve them the fish.

Sardines are loaded with omega oils and the mushy bones are a source of calcium.

Another treat they enjoy is canned salmon.

Sorry, I tend to endulge my girls.

i would fee my chickens canned a salmon and anchovies and everything nice,
if only i could get it past my, mum without her noticing,
thats the trick.....
then my chickens would eat drink sleep and live better than me....

I give mine fresh fish. They know when I have been fishing before I even start clening the fish. It is like they can smell the fish. Even those farest from the house will be raising cane. I don't think canned fish would be to good for them, to much salt.

do not give anything with ANY salt in it... salt is a silent killer ... commercial feed has the extact amount they need in it

I don't believe that canned fish like sardines have salt added. They are salt water fish packed in spring water.
