All chicks from Murray McMurray and they're all just pets/breakfast providers. These are our first ever chickens and we are all so darn excited! Only two losses, and we're on day two after shipment.

I apologize for all of the photos. We're learning more and more every day, but not enough to ID any of these chicks yet.

Here's what we purchased:

http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/brown_egg_layers.html

And the Ornamental Layers Collection, which is supposed to be an all hen combination of these two:

Then we did opt to take their mystery chick.

#1

#2 - almost has leopard spots.

#3 - black feet, no white spot on head or white bum.

#13 - my favorite. One of our sons named this girl Marshmallow. Soft yellow with grey.

Thanks for your help! This is tremendously fun! We're already addicted. There may or may not be an incubator warming on the counter right now... Ahem.

Hm, I agree with Happy Houdan on all of these except...

#11 is definitely a Salmon Faverolles, it has a beard and muffs and 5 toes!
#16 and #17 are Easter Eggers (what hatcheries call Ameraucanas)
#17 and #19 look like Brown Leghorns (if the combs are single combs)
#18 is possibly a Partridge Cochin (not a Campine as it has feathered legs)

*Edited to change the last number

Oops! I didn't see that!

Thank you, HeartMoss Farm! I've got some busy kids around here now, Googling our chicks. So much fun! I can't tell you how excited I am to have a Salmon Favorelle! I *almost* ordered some eggs from BYC members, but held off...

Did you check the baby chick videos on youtube from McMurray? It is fun to check them and compare to the ones you have. No doubt they are identified correctly now but it would still be fun. :D

Hi Anne! We DID, and like true novices, they all sort of looked the same to us. Now that we know what they are, I'm sure we'll have even more fun watching the videos. We took the iPad out to the garage and sat around the brooder for hours last night making lists of what we thought they might be!

Where in Idaho are you? We're in Garden Valley.

I loved sorting mine out when we got them. It was like being a detective! A Chicken Detective!
I am from Oakley. :)
