I have a friend who hatched 3 hen set chicks about 5 days ago, I asked him, "did the hen leave any eggs in nest when she walked away from it?" He said "a few" I told him I was on my way over. He thought they would hatch that same day. I picked up 4 eggs. I candled at home. one was all liquid, one looked like it was almost full grown but died in shell (eggtopsy) and the last 2 looked like they had a number of days left to develop. I put the last 2 in a heated incubator. This morning one hatched (the other looks like it can be in for longer) I have hatched this friends eggs before, he thought they were Egyptian Fayoumi eggs, because I had given him that kind of hen before. But they are Ancona eggs the black and white chicken that lays big white eggs and has a floppy comb. I had given him that kind of hen also. Well I saved the late bloomers!
