'Saved' Silkie from TSC - He's Dying.

This is EXCELLENT for spaddle, one of my silkies (Lucy) had spraddled, I tried this way according to the link, and even though it says in 24 hours my silkie was fine after 8 hours. It work wonderfully, I tried bandaids and what not nothing seemed to work as great as this, only my hair ties didn't have the metal so i simple doubled knotted it.

Okay. It's 5:44am. I spent the last 44mins feeding and watering the little guy. He ate and drank well. He pooped while I took my 3hr nap and pooped while I was feeding him. Sadly, his leg is not getting better. It is still just as bad as it was when I picked him out of the bin. Yes, I know you are telling me to do the hair tie trick, but it's going to do the same thing as the bandaid. It just pulled his good leg over to the same side as his bad. The bandaid is what caused the little guy to end up IN the water. He can get around ok without the wrap or the bandaid, but with it, he's on his chest or flipping himself around with his wings. I re-wrapped him in his vet wrap, noting again the rigidity of the joint (the one connecting the drumstick to the thigh) and how it's just not moving.

Question: Your spraddle leg cases; are they pliable in the joints, or are they rigid like the joint was broke and mended that way? Mine seems like the later. I honestly think it was let go to long. He's got to be 4 days old by now and I am just addressing the issue. Is it to late at 4 days? I honestly don't know what to do.

What about getting a small stick and place between the legs, then put the bandaide on, so the other leg is not pulled in. Kind of the like the bar between the cast when you break your hips or both legs.

Using vet wrap and q-tips, I made a splint for that leg and then used another q-tip to hold them at a certain distance. The "burrito" wrap didn't work. He's weak. Very. He is still eating, drinking and pooping, but it really is not looking good. I am afraid the heat may be an issue. I have him right under the light and the light is at 90 degrees now. He has no way to get away from it, that's why I kept the light at 90. He's nestled in rags to hold him where he should be and so he can't go flopping around the brooder and getting stuck upside down, in the water (which has since been removed) or trapped in the feeder. It's really not looking good for him and I am afraid he's either going to die or I'm going to have to cull him. I don't have the heart or the stomach for that.

He stopped eating and drinking. He isn't opening his eyes again, he isn't peeping... nothing. He just sits there (propped up) and gasps or sleeps. My husband won't cull him and neither will I and until he gives up, I know I will keep trying - fruitlessly.

so sorry this is happening, poor little thing, at least you can keep him comfortable. are you sure having him wrapped up isn't hindering his breathing? I hope it pulls through.

He isn't wrapped anymore. Even while he was wrapped he kept getting his feet and wings out because it wasn't very tight. Now he's just lightly nestled in a rag. His gasps are more like mute chirps, but I don't know. I think his lungs are full of water from his near drowning yesterday.

Thanks Lacrystol...It really does work!

Your chick doesn't have very good odds. Just keep him comfortable and he'll probably pass peacefully away tonight. So sorry.
