Saw a freaking BOBCAT this morning! Help with ideas?

did I imagine this or did I hear it somewhere that you can get lion pee and srinkle it around to deter deer? I think my brother told me this.. I would ask him, but his memory is worse than mine..

You can download a recording of a male cougar and play it. Although, I'd imagine the recording would scare the bejeepers out of the chickens just as much as the bobcat

Also, if you get urine, get it from another large cat- i.e. cougar, lion, etc. Gotta love Cabella's!

I live in Tennessee, and we have bobcats. We've never had any trouble with our chickens (knock knock), but they are in a REALLY strong fence, and not allowed to free-range due to all the predators. The problem we have is with our CATS. Bobcats carry a disease called "cytauxzoonosis" or "bobcat fever". Ticks bite the bobcat, then bite a domestic cat, transmitting the disease. Bobcat Fever is fatal to cats -- if diagnosed early, they can be saved, but odds aren't real good. When I lost my favorite cat to this disease, I gave up having outdoor cats here, and I miss them terribly. But I can't live through that again. So for anyone who knows they are in bobcat country, you might check with vets and/or extension agent and see if the disease is found in your area.

T-Bone is GORGEOUS. I would love to have a pet bobcat. If I heard of anyone around here who found cubs I would rescue them in a heartbeat. Unfortunately we live in "hunters" country and bobcats and their babies don't fare well if spotted. I know someone who has the mama and two or three babies in the deep freeze waiting to be stuffed.

Wow! Awesome! (TBone, that is)...my DS volunteers at a local sanctuary here...he reminded me that most of the wild cats there are former household pets. And it is sad that they've taken babies. People tend to over-react a lot of times....

Thank you!! Yes, I strongly advocate that exotics are not for everyone. You have to have a clear and patient understanding of them. Ive had T-Bone his whole life ( eight years) and we have a very strong bond.
