Long story short I had a chicken who was acting sickly. I thought maybe egg bound so me and my husband filled a plastic little bin/tub with warm water about 3/4 the way just enough so that when she relax her bum would be in the water. We created a lid out of cardboard with a whole cut in it for her head and neck. When we put her head thru and put the cardboard down she started fighting it somewhere in the process something happened. I have no idea what maybe she got really scared or something. I don’t even know how to describe it. She started shooting herself up into the air like a torpedo a few times, like seized out and flopped around crazily like a fish and then just died. What the hell?! I’m so sad and shook up

I'm so sorry to hear this :(
I've had chickens die what seems like randomly aswell. I'm not sure why but everytime I've witness one pass away they also tend to flop around and move like crazy. I think it's the last of their energy leaving before they pass. I hope this doesn't happen to you again, sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear this! Sometimes a bath can be the final straw for a chicken in distress. But as the poster above says, it's true that as a chicken (or any animal, really) dies, their nerves and muscles will fire, resulting in the wild flapping. It can be upsetting to see but it doesn't necessarily mean they are suffering. You can't always know why they die, or do anything to stop it. It's just hard to know sometimes. :hugs
