Say hello to Momo the axolotl!

NO! Don't worry, axolotls can be fridged in emergencies and it slows down there metabolisium (I spelled that wrong) so they don't need to eat as much. If I put them in the freezer they would die. Yes, I have two. One is male by what the re-homer said (he is a little over a year old, he is a accidental rescue) and the other I bought as a baby from MOD Aquatics (A well rated breeder). She is one of the many reasons my axolotls are living today. We got mis-information from another breeder that made it out that cycling was optional. IT IS NOT OPTIONAL! Your axolotl will die in it's own waste without a cycle. A cycle s when you create beneficial bacteria that removes ammonia from there waste along with weekly water changes. Sadly I don't think we can fix the filter but we are replacing it. It was given to us for free (I don't think they knew it was broken). The baby I named Wildstyle because it's a wild type and that name remined me of the LEGO MOVIE character wildstyle (The gender isn't known until the baby is around a year+). The adult is named Toothless after the How to train your Dragon movies.
WHOA that is super interesting! Although I am imagining going to someone’s house and opening the fridge to get a soda…only to find it is full of axolotls . How long can they stay in “hibernation“ for?

I didn’t realize the filters were so complicated. Again, I hope you can get it fixed!

I hope to in the years to come breed axolotls to help keep them from going extinct. They can live over 10 years if properly cared for, I hope I can care for mine well so they reach at least close to that.
Very neat, I didn’t know they could live that long. It sounds like you take good care of them. No clue how you would tell the genders though (I’m sure someone can). How big do they get?

Some people keep them in there up to a month without food, even though you should offer it to them because some will eat more often then others. Past a month without food IN THE FRIDGE is concerning. As soon as the tanks ready we plan to move them back. Even though axolotls don't like light they do need some for there mental health I've read (What I mean is don't always keep them in pitch dark, in a shaded corner of a room that sometimes gets light is perfect). Filter devices are normally very simple if they work properly. Normally you just replace the devices dispossible filters every few weeks to months depending on the filter device. We plan to upgrade to a AquaClear hang on back filter in the future once the cycle is restored (IF I just swapped the filters before I renewed the cycle I would kill the beneficial bacteria in the broken filter).

Telling genders is very hard. I've heard several cases were people found out they had different genders but unintentional mating. They're ways to tell though. They can get up to 18 inches, but normally I would say 10? They need at least a 10 gal tank but I would recommend more (the more the better). Our tank gives our axolotls 15 gals each.

Oh, I miss-understood what you meant. I thought you meant the axolotl was dumb. Axolotls are very smart animals, smarter than I originally before I got my first one last year.
Momo is a dumb dumb. Cute, but literally dumb. She’s so dumb. Dumb dumb.

I mean this in a good way. She’s awesome. But so dumb.

The dumbest pet we have. We love her, though!

Pictures.
