I just signed up for this group and am hoping to find a place to learn more about my little flock of teenage hens. They are still in the house, and as I type I hear the hammering from my husband building the coop in the back yard. In the meantime, amid the finest of dust, my girls and I are bonding.
We have not had chickens since the 1980's, and this time we again chose Buff Orpingtons. They are friendly, sweet, and beautiful, so what else could I want?
We live in a small crossroads in the country, in Kentucky, so not a problem at all having chicks. Our human children are grown, and we have doves and a finch in the house, a goldfish, and 2 English Mastiff dogs.
Fortunately, my husband is a great carpenter, but he also works full time, so the coop was not finished quite on schedule, but we're nothing if not flexible.
I'm looking forward to reading more!

G'Day from down under Claire :frowWelcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock and/or other critters, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

Welcome to the site! Love reading about your collection of birds and animals, shows that you are a good animal lover. You should learn lots here as there are many very experienced chicken farmers here. Sounds like your Kentucky property is perfect for your needs. Maybe add your city and state to your avatar so that later readers will know where you are located if they miss your initial post. Looking forward to your progress.
