Hi, everyone!
I have been reading the forums for a few weeks now and wanted to introduce myself. We will be getting our first fluffy butts from McMurray a week from Sunday (or Monday). We've never had chickens before so everything is new for us. I've done as much reading as I can and I think we're close to being ready.
I must admit, the posts for the last few days about the shipping deaths has my stomach in knots. The thought of those poor chicks dying in the dark and the cold scares me and rips my heart out. I know it's to be expected but I'm terrified of causing harm to these little guys.
We have ordered 1 RIR, 1 Partridge Rock, 1 Delaware, 3 EE's, 2 Black Stars, 1 Brown Leghorn, 1 Salmon Faverolle, 1 Golden Campine, 1 Red Cap, 5 Cuckoo Marans (straight run- hoping to get two hens), and 1 Golden Laced Wyandotte. Instead of the "free rare chick" that is likely to be a roo that we have to give away, I ordered a Dominique. Less chance my 9 year old daughter's heart will get broken that way. We ordered broilers to make up the difference in numbers. I'll be giving them to some friends who raise meat birds.
I'll definitely post pics when we get our younguns. And I'll probably have a thousand questions by then!
