Scab on Hen’s Thigh

I just noticed this on the back of my hen’s thigh. I tried to gently squeeze it but it appeared to bother her. I haven’t seen anything similar on this site. It looks like a large scabbed pimple about the size of a pea. Not sure if it’s an ingrown feather because it doesn’t look like the photos of that or cysts. We’re in San Diego and haven’t had issues with bot flies, etc. Thanks in advance!

Try soaking her in epsom salt, then after the epsom salt bath, it should be easier to remove the scab.

I'd apply a warm compress to help loosen the scab, remove it, push out any pus, then work around in the wound to see if there's an impacted feather that needs to be pulled out.

Clean well after you get finished with some Chlorhexidine, then pack with triple antibiotic ointment. Look at the area at least once daily, clean with Chlorhexidine as needed and reapply the ointment.

Any tips on how to keep her still for that? It was difficult enough just trying to take the photos.

Swaddle her in a towel to capture her wings, she will be easier to handle.
